Sourdough Chocolate Chip Cookies: A Sweet Twist on a Classic

If there’s one thing that can make a classic chocolate chip cookie even better, it’s sourdough! Whether you’re a seasoned baker or a sourdough newbie with a jar of starter begging to be used, this recipe is for you. Think gooey chocolate, a hint of tangy sourdough magic, and that perfect chewy texture that makes every bite unforgettable.

Not only are these cookies ridiculously delicious, but they’re also a fun way to use up your sourdough discard—because let’s face it, that starter needs a job beyond bread. Ready to bake up some cozy, cookie joy? Let’s dive in!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup softened salted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sourdough discard
  • 2 eggs
  • lots of vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups AP Flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp of the BEST salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips / chunks (or a mix of both!)

STEPS:

Cream together butter & sugars. Once combined, beat in eggs, discard + vanilla.

In a separate bowl, mix together your flour, salt, baking soda + baking powder.

Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients to the butter-sugar mixture, scraping down edges as needed.

Mix in chocolate, do a little taste test, then get ready to scoop! A cookie scoop this size is my favorite.

Scoop cookies onto a parchment-lined baking tray, and bake for 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees until just turning golden around the edges.

Allow the cookies to cool for 2 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a wire rack.

Enjoy with a glass of raw milk… yummy!!! These are also the best gift / thank you to give to loved ones or neighbors! I’ve purchased these cookie tins too many times… or check out your local Dollar General – they always have the cutest cookie tins at $1 – $3 a piece!
